What is Lexbe?
Lexbe is a hosted litigation support service. Your key
litigation documents (pleadings, depositions, exhibits, agreements,
email, interrogatories, etc.) are
available anywhere and anytime in searchable PDF files.
Lexbe's easy to use search and browse features allow you to find and
organize the information you need to succeed. You can easily
organize key case facts and issues and associate these with the
underlying documentation. Finally, Lexbe allows you to view
your case facts in graphical timelines and other useful reports.
Our office sends confidential documents
to lawyers, experts and clients as email attachments? Is this
secure?
No! Many people do not understand how unsecure it is to send a
confidential document as an unencrypted email and/or attachment.
These are the dangers:
Interception on internet: E-mail and attachments may be intercepted as it is traveling on the internet. An email message traveling from sender to recipient actually is stored, at least temporarily, on numerous interim computers which make up the internet. These computers may or may not be secure. Employees of the companies that operate these computers may have access to unencrypted emails and attachments.
Access on Recipient's Computer. Someone who sends and receives e-mail from a computer may not be aware of the risk of having someone obtain that e-mail through access to the same internet account or to e-mail stored on the computer itself. Computers are often set up to store all e-mail sent and received. Additionally, many computers create “temporary” files that essentially form a temporary backup system. These files can be seen by anyone else with access to the computer.
One solution is to send emails and attachments encrypted. While effective, this can be cumbersome and complicated as both sender and recipient must either use a common email system or share a long encryption key and use an common encryption system. For these reasons, use of encrypted email is not common.
Secure Alternatives. Lexbe offers a more convenient and secure way to share confidential information, as all documents are accessed through secure and easy to use browser based encryption.
We already scan documents in our
office. Can we use these scanned documents in Lexbe?
Yes. Clients have the choice of having us scan documents,
scanning the documents themselves, or having a third party service provider scan
documents and forward electronic versions to us.
Don't worry about optical character recognition (OCR), as Lexbe does
this automatically and without cost once documents are uploaded.
Do I need IT support or involvement to
use Lexbe?
No. Lexbe is a completely hosted system and we handle all IT
setup and support. Clients need only access our secured site
through a recent web browser (Internet Explorer or Firefox) and have
a high speed internet connection (DSL, cable or T-1).
How much training is needed to use
Lexbe?
Lexbe is designed to be easy to use and not require extensive
training. We recommend trying our online
Quick Start Guide to get an
overview of features. Lexbe also includes context-sensitive
help, as well as a special
support site, with a
knowledgebase of available articles and
resources.
Can I access Lexbe when I am not in my
office?
Yes. You can access Lexbe from home or anywhere you have a
high speed internet connection. Your information is protected
whenever accessed with 128 bit encryption.
Isn't Lexbe only for document intense cases?
While it is true that Lexbe is helpful in searching and organizing
large cases, Lexbe also provides substantial benefits in smaller
cases. These include analyzing and evaluating a case with
facts and issues, extracting key facts from depositions,
interrogatories and requests for admission, identifying uncontested
issues suitable for summary judgment, preparing timelines of case
facts, and identifying and organizing the key documents for trial.
While it's true that these tasks can be done manually, they can be
accomplished better with Lexbe. Also, Lexbe makes sharing of
case information and documents much easier and more secure.
And because Lexbe's charge is based solely on the documents
included, a smaller case costs less!
